What are some needs I can pray for in my family?
Where are some areas I need to pray for myself in light of my family?
Family
“Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. Honor your father and mother- which is the first commandment with a promise- that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth (Eph 6:1-3) Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord (Col 3:20)
Our next question has got to be, "What then does it mean to honor your parents?" I like this explanation. It may appear simplistic, but I think it covers everything ..including our "Yes, buts" and our "But, what ifs."
Submission certainly is a difficult area for everyone. What makes it difficult is that many times we think we know more or know better than the person we are to submit to. It's like this: I have no problem submitting to someone who is asking me to do something in an area where I know absolutely nothing, something like flying an airplane or going through a medical exam or procedure. But boy-oh-boy! do I have a hard time submitting in an area or to a person when I think I have some knowledge or understanding. That's where the struggle begins.
But, dear one, God calls us to be women after His own heart. And His high calling requires a heart that submits. Now... How are you doing so far?
Pray for one another–Here it is again! Prayer! You simply cannot pray for your brothers and sisters enough! And remember, too, that when you pray for others, God changes your heart, gives you His love and wisdom, and many times moves in the hearts of those you pray for. So think of the grandest thing you could ask of God for your siblings. Do they need to know Christ? Then pray! Do they need to get along better with Mom and Dad? Then pray! Do they need a friend, a job, better grades? Then pray! Are they trying to make an important decision, like whether or not to go to college, or which college? Then pray! Is one of them in a doubtful relationship with a boyfriend or girlfriend? Then pray! The Bible commands us to "pray for each other" (James 5:16) and assures us that God's ears are open to our prayers (1 Peter 3:12). So take the time to pray for your brothers and sisters. As someone known as "the kneeling Christian" once said, "Prayer is our highest privilege, our gravest responsibility, and the greatest power God has put into our hands. " Who knows what God may do?!
